Car of the Month August 2011

Here are some images of my ’81 1500 5 speed. The paint is not original (done by previous owner) but upholstery and interior now done to match, although I need to re-colour the dash and make it black.

Engine is currently standard, just with a ram air filter on the carb, although I have manifold and twin Weber IDFs to fit. I’ll also re-profile the CAM at that stage and I’d like to fit a CSC exhaust but I need a bigger case for my next work trip to the UK!

Suspension has been overhauled with sway bars front and rear (ex US) and progressive coils at the front (ex UK) as well as nylothane bushes. I have grooved disks to fit to front and stainless brake hoses, otherwise brakes and clutch have also been overhauled. I rebuilt the gearbox last year with parts from Eurosport-UK and a new third gear out of the States. It’s a great car for New Zealand, especially the scenic South Island – although the roads through Christchurch have taken a hammering from the recent earthquakes.
