The Haynes manual say .030 to .045mm on the top two rings and .020 to .040mm on the third (bottom ring) . That's only a really useful measure if you are fitting new rings to good/new bores. If you are using the measurement as an assessment of wear in the bores or rings then you are relying on the previous owner having gapped them up correctly in the first instance (assuming its not still on factory fitted parts). In this case is it the bores or the rings that are worn, or both? An internal micrometre is needed to check the wear and ovality of the bores

Hello mate
Thought it was about that I've just stripped the block and just seeing what's needed. Measured bore with vernier and all around 86.4 but for some reason when i put ring in bore gap was more like 3mm. Not a problem has its all got to be done cheers
